Today the sixth-grade class hosted kindergarten, first, and second grades in the gymnasium for the annual Hatchet Fair. Sixth grade read Hatchet with their WIN groups this fall, and this event is the culminating activity held to showcase what the students learned throughout the unit. Each student can choose to participate in the fair by either creating a craft or game, performing a skit, or leading a group of younger students through the fair. The students not only think, create, and plan, but also gain valuable experience putting their ideas into action as well as communicating their ideas to other people. The sixth-grade students love the fair and often gain insight on what it is like to be the “teacher.” The event is even more popular among the younger students, who get to enjoy a half an hour of watching live skits, interactive games, and crafts.
