Dear Parents and Guardians:
The safety of the children and staff in the district is of the utmost importance when deciding whether the schools should be closed because of adverse weather conditions or other emergencies. Before a decision is made, information from many sources will be obtained and evaluated.
If it is necessary to close the schools, the announcement will be made over the following radio and television stations by 6:00 AM.
- Radio station WHWK/WAAL (98.1/99.1 FM) in Binghamton
- Radio station WTTC (1550 AM, 95.3 FM) in Towanda
- Radio station WHGL-WIGGLE (1310 AM, 100 FM) in Troy/Canton
- Television station WNEP-TV (Channel 16) in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
- Telephone station WBRE-WYOU TV (Channel 28/22) in Wilkes-Barre
- Television station WBNG-TV (Channel 12) in Binghamton
- Television station WETM-TV (Channel 18) in Elmira
- Television station WIVT/WBGH (Channel 34) in Binghamton
- Television station WENY (Channel 36) Elmira
In addition, the district Facebook page, Thrill Share, school telephone system (744-2521), and web page (www.nebpanthers.com) will also have closing and delay information available by 6:40 a.m. There have been instances where we have been able to open the schools in the morning and adverse weather conditions have developed during the day. If it becomes necessary to dismiss the children early, we will also use the above to inform the community.
I encourage you to develop a plan for your family so that if we must send students home earlier than expected, each child will know where to go if no one is at home. Parents/guardians of elementary children should notify the classroom teacher of the plan to be used if an early dismissal is necessary.
If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s school.
Sincerely,
Matthew Holmes
Administrator in Charge
