Youth Scholarships The VFW is dedicated to promoting patriotism and investing in our future generation. If you are a democracy-loving high school student interested in a $30,000 college scholarship or a patriotic middle school student interested in winning $5,000, these scholarships may be for you. Voice of Democracy Established in 1947, our Voice of Democracy audio-essay program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay. Each year, nearly 64,500 9-12 grade students from across the country enter to win their share of more than $2 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the program. The national first place winner receives a $30,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college or vocational/technical school. A complete list of other national scholarships range from $1,000-$16,000, and the first place winner from each VFW Department (state) wins a minimum scholarship of $1,000. Want to apply? Read the rules and eligibility requirements, and download and complete the 2021-2022 Voice of Democracy entry form as all student entries must be submitted to a sponsoring local VFW Post by midnight, Oct. 31. The 2021-22 theme is: America: Where Do We Go From Here?

Each first place state winner receives a minimum of $500 at the national level, and the national first place winner wins $5,000! The essay contest encourages young minds to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300- to 400-word essay, expressing their views based on a patriotic theme chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief. Want to apply? Read the rules and eligibility requirements, and download and complete the 2021-2022 Patriot's Pen entry form as all student entries must be submitted to a sponsoring local VFW Post by midnight, Oct. 31. Good Morning, ASVAB testing will be taking place Wednesday, October 20th in the high school cafeteria from approximately 8:30 - 11:30AM for ALL SOPHOMORES. Interested juniors and seniors can sign-up by notifying the guidance office of their intentions to test. Students do not need to bring any testing materials with them on their scheduled test day. Although the ASVAB is used for military entry and job placement for students interested in enlisting, for younger students, the ASVAB is used as a career exploration tool that combines a student's interests with his or her skills and abilities. The ASVAB is one of the best indicators of the appropriateness of a career match because it incorporates the student's ability/skill in the career match calculation. I also includes areas not typically measured on a school assessment such as "Mechanical Comprehension." For more information on the ASVAB's career assessment and career exploration program, please visit: ASVAB Testing Information. We DO NOT release sophomore ASVAB scores to military recruiters and the ASVAB testing center is not permitted to do so; however, if you do not wish for your sophomore child to test, please email or write a note asking that your child be exempt from ASVAB testing for this school year. The ASVAB score can be helpful to students to ensure they are maximizing their options to meet at least one of the required Graduation Pathway Requirements as outlined by the Pennsylvania Department of Education: Pathways Document. This assessment is one of the primary ways many of our students will be able to do so. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. Sincerely, Shannon Miller School Counselor

Good evening, this is Scott Webster calling from the Northeast Bradford Elementary School reminding parents that a technology survey was sent home with your child today. We ask that you please fill out the survey indicating if your child has access to technology at home or if they will need to borrow an I-pad from the school. This is a proactive survey in case we need to pivot to a remote model for a short time. Please complete the questionnaire and have your child return it to school tomorrow morning. There is a link to this survey on our webpage if you do not receive one. Thank you.
